About Abbie Hoffman
Abbie Hoffman, born on November 30, 1936 in Worcester, Massachusetts, was a prominent figure as a Civil Rights Leader and political activist. He was also a co-founder of the Youth International Party and part of the Chicago seven—a radical group that made headlines for disrupting the 1968 Democratic National Convention.
Before gaining notoriety for his activism, Hoffman organized and headed ‘Liberty House,’ an organization focused on fundraising for the Civil Rights movement in the southern United States after obtaining a B.A. in psychology from Brandeis University.
Hoffman’s involvement in anti-Vietnam War protests led to his infamous five-year sentence for conspiracy and inciting to riot. However, this conviction was later overturned due to the violent police response during the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
His second wife was Anita Kushner; their relationship ended in 1980.
