Vesta Williams was an R&B singer born on December 1, 1957, in Ohio. She is best known for her 1989 chart-topping R&B hit “Congratulations” and her four-octave vocal range. Prior to gaining recognition as a solo artist, Williams worked with the band Wild Honey, which was formed by former Fifth Dimension member Ron Townson. One interesting fact about Williams is that she attributed the decline in her career to her size twenty-six dress. This led her to undergo a dramatic weight loss program in which she ultimately shed one hundred pounds. She hails from a musical family –her father was a disc jockey and two of her sisters even appeared on the television show Jack and Jill.
