About Anne Bradstreet
Anne Bradstreet, born on March 20, 1612 in England, was a poet known for her domestic-themed works such as Before the Birth of One of Her Children and To My Dear and Loving Husband. While many of her works are positive and optimistic, others, including The Prologue, exhibit hints of sarcasm and irony.
Coming from an aristocratic English family, Bradstreet immigrated to the New World in 1630 on The Arbella, a Puritan ship. She was married to Simon Bradstreet with whom she had eight children. Notably, she became the first British colonial poet in North America to publish her work.
