About Anne Volant Rowling
Anne Volant Rowling (1945-02-05) was an English family member, known for being the mother of author J.K. Rowling. Born in England, she met her husband on a train departing from King’s Cross Station for Arbroath in 1964 and worked as a high school science technician before her life took a tragic turn when she was first diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 35.
Her daughter founded the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic in her name as part of the University of Edinburgh to keep her memory alive after she passed from complications due to multiple sclerosis at the age of 45. The death of Harry’s parents in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was inspired by Anne’s passing, which J.K. Rowling experienced while writing the first draft of her first book.
Anne was married to aircraft engineer Peter Rowling.
