About Anne Sexton
Anne Sexton was a Pulitzer Prize-winning confessional poet, born in Newton, Massachusetts on November 9, 1928.
Throughout her career, she gained widespread acclaim for works like Live or Die, The Book of Folly, and To Bedlam and Part Way Back. In addition to her poetry, she co-wrote four children’s books.
Prior to making a name for herself as a poet, Sexton studied at Boston University alongside fellow poet Robert Lowell.
In 1969 she published Mercy Street – a two-act play. She married Alfred Sexton with whom she had two daughters but tragically committed suicide at the age of forty-five.
