Candace Bushnell is a novelist born on December 1, 1958 in Glastonbury, Connecticut. She gained fame through her work as a columnist for the New York Observer, where she wrote a column that inspired the popular HBO series Sex and the City.
Bushnell has authored several bestselling novels including Lipstick Jungle, The Carrie Diaries (a prequel to Sex and the City), and Trading Up. Before gaining recognition as a writer, she had an early success when one of her children’s stories was purchased by Simon & Schuster while she was just nineteen years old. She pursued studies at both New York University and Rice University before starting her career as a humor columnist.
Notably, Ron Galotti, a New York-based publisher, served as inspiration for Bushnell’s well-known character “Mr. Big.” Candace grew up in Glastonbury as the daughter of Camille and Calvin Bushnell. Her marriage to professional ballet dancer Charles Askegard ended in divorce.
