Aretha Franklin, born on March 25, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee, was a renowned soul singer known as the “Queen of Soul.” She is best known for her iconic hits “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” and “Respect.” Throughout her illustrious career, Franklin won over fifteen Grammy Awards and achieved record sales of over 75 million.
Franklin began singing at her father’s church after her mother passed away, and she launched her solo career at the age of eighteen. As a notable trivia, she served as the godmother to recording artist Whitney Houston. In terms of family life, Franklin was married twice – first to Ted White in 1962 before marrying Glynn Turman on April 11, 1978. She had four sons named Edward, Ted, Clarence and Kecalf. Additionally,her sisters Erma and Carolyn were also singers.
