About Abigail Scott Duniway
Abigail Scott Duniway (1834-10-22) was an American activist and suffrage advocate, best known for her significant role in securing voting rights for women. Born in Illinois, she later moved with her family to Oregon where she became a prominent figure as the editor of The Oregonian newspaper.
Prior to her career in activism and journalism, Abigail grew up on her family’s farm before relocating to Oregon in March 1832. Tragically, her mother passed away on the Oregon trail just three months later. In 1859, she published “Crossing the Plains and Living in Oregon.”
Her parents were John Tucker Scott and Anne Roelofson Scott, and she had a brother named Harvey.
