About Adelle Davis
Adelle Davis (February 25, 1904 – May 31, 1974) was an American self-help author and nutritionist known for her advocacy of vitamins and unprocessed foods. She authored several influential nutrition-themed publications such as Let’s Eat Right to Keep Fit (1954), Let’s Have Healthy Children (1951), and Optimum Health (1935).
Davis studied home economics at Purdue University and the University of California-Berkeley before earning a master’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Southern California. She worked as a private nutritionist in Oakland and Los Angeles.
Despite her influence, Davis received criticism for making nutritional recommendations not supported by scientific literature. In her personal life, she was married to George Edward Leisey for a decade before adopting his two children. In 1960, she married attorney Frank Sieglinger.
