About Alina Zagitova
Alina Zagitova is a Russian figure skater born on May 18, 2002. She rose to prominence in the sport by winning the Grand Prix Final, World Junior Figure Skating Championships and ISU Junior Grand Prix Final in 2017. Zagitova also made history at the 2018 Winter Olympics by securing gold in the ladies’ individual event with a world record score of 82.92 and contributing to Russia’s silver medal in the team event.
Prior to her meteoric rise, Zagitova began learning to skate in Izhevsk, Russia under Natalia Antipina’s guidance. Notably, she became the first junior women’s skater ever to earn a total score above 200 at the 2016-17 Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final and broke four individual junior women’s skating records at the 2016-17 ISU Junior Grand Prix Final.
Zagitova has family ties to sports as her father Ilnaz Zagitov is a hockey coach and she has a younger sister named Sabina. At age 13, she moved to Moscow with her grandmother where she continued pursuing her passion for figure skating.
