About Andrea Mead Canning
Andrea Mead Canning (born December 10, 1972) is a Canadian-American journalist and writer. Since 2012, she has served as a correspondent for Dateline NBC and as a fill-in anchor on Today and Weekend Today. She has also contributed to other NBC news platforms including NBC Nightly News and MSNBC. Additionally, she is known for her work as a writer for the Hallmark channel and Lifetime movies.
Prior to her career in journalism, Canning graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1994 with a degree in psychology. Subsequently, she studied radio and television arts at Ryerson Polytechnic University before launching her career at news stations in Cincinnati and Florida.
Canning is associated with the international women’s fraternity Alpha Gamma Delta, and gained attention when an interview with Charlie Sheen on 20/20 went viral in February of 2011, accumulating over 10 million views on YouTube within nine days. In addition to her journalistic endeavors, she has appeared as a news anchor in the Ruby Herring Mystery movie series.
She currently resides in Westchester, New York with her husband Lt. Col Tony Bancroft, USMCR—a pilot instructor—and their six children along with their black cat and tan dog.
