Anna Manahan, born on October 18, 1924 in Ireland, was an acclaimed Irish stage actress who gained recognition for her performance in Tennessee Williams’ play “The Rose Tattoo.” She further solidified her reputation with a starring role in Martin McDonagh’s “The Beauty Queen of Leenane” and appeared in films such as “Clash of the Titans,” “All Dogs Go to Heaven,” and “A Man of No Importance.”
Prior to finding success on stage and screen, Manahan was discovered by impresario Micheal Mac Liammoir and theatrical producer Hilton Edwards.
She received numerous accolades for her work, including winning the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play at the 52nd Tony Awards for her role in “The Beauty Queen of Leenane.” Additionally, she received a nomination for a Laurence Olivier Award for her performance in “The Plough and the Stars.”
In terms of personal life, Manahan was married to stage director Colm O’Kelly from 1955 until his death in 1956.
