Anne Scripps was born on November 18, 1946, in New York. She was a member of the prominent Scripps publishing family and is known for the tragic circumstances surrounding her death.
Before her untimely passing, Scripps’ two older daughters became concerned about their stepfather’s abusive behavior towards their mother and encouraged her to divorce him. Unfortunately, Anne Scripps was murdered by her second husband, Scott Douglas, a house painter.
Following the tragedy, it was revealed that her three-year-old daughter implicated Scott Douglas as the perpetrator of the crime.
Anne Scripps had ties to wealth and privilege through her lineage as well – her grandfather founded the Detroit News. Additionally, she had been married twice: first to stockbroker Anthony Morrell with whom she had two daughters; then to Scott Douglas with whom she shared a third daughter.
A week after being attacked in her sleep by Scott Douglas and while hospitalized fighting for life before succumbing to injuries sustained from blunt force trauma. Notably during this time, Anthony Morrell (her first husband), who himself suffered from advanced liver cirrhosis at that point left his own hospital bed just so he could stand by Anne’s side during those final moments. Following Anne’s death an additional somber note was attached when it came out that Her liver would later go on to save Anthony Morrell’s life once they underwent transplant surgery.
