About Antjie Krog
Antjie Krog (born October 23, 1952) is a South African poet, author, and academic. She is known for her works Januarie-Suite and Country of My Skull.
Krog has received numerous literary honors including the Hertzog Prize, the Alan Paton Award, and the Olive Schreiner Prize.
Before gaining fame as a writer she spent her youth on her family’s South African farm. In 1970 Krog scandalized her Afrikaans community by writing an anti-Apartheid poem for her school’s literary magazine.
In 2006 she was accused of plagiarism but she vehemently denied the charges.
She is married to John Samuel, an architect, and together they have four children and several grandchildren.
