Vivienne Haigh-Wood Eliot was born on May 28, 1888, in England. She is best known as the first wife of renowned author T.S. Eliot and for spending her later years in an asylum. Prior to meeting T.S. Eliot, Vivienne interacted with him at parties where she reportedly helped bring him out of his shell. Her affair with the philosopher Bertrand Russell led to the end of her marriage and resulted in T.S. Eliot shunning her. After 18 years of marriage, Vivienne and T.S. Eliot separated in 1933.
